Bonifacio Day

Militant groups led by Anakbayan did the rounds of the offices of government offices concerned with the welfare of workers to mark Bonifacio Day today.  The groups reminded government agencies like the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) of the poor work they are doing to protect workers against labor-only contracting and other schemes that do nothing to improve their plight.  Today is the 149th birthday of Andres Bonifacio, the leader of the Katipunan who rose from the ranks of the poor and the laborers to fight Spanish rule.  He was executed in 1897 when he was only 34.
