Text messages are supposed to cost 20 centavos less starting today but there have been complaints that consumers are still being charged P1 for every message sent. The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) earlier issued a memorandum circular lowering the access charge per SMS from 35 centavos to 15 centavos. The lower access charge translates to a 20-centavo reduction in the rate per SMS sent, meaning text messages are supposed to cost 80 centavos each. Access charge is paid by a carrier for every SMS that passes through another carrier’s network.
