Garbo Sa Sugbo 2012

The Cebu Provincial Government, through its Garbo Sa Sugbo Awards, this year honored 17 Cebuanos for their contribution in different fields. Two of the honorees, Honorary Consul of Latvia Robert Lim Joseph and tourism advocate Dr. Mila Espina, are not Cebuanos by birth but might as well be. Joseph was declared an adopted son of Cebu through a resolution passed by the Cebu Provincial Board. He was given the award of distinction and medal of merit for “relentlessly” promoting Cebu to the world. One those recognized as Garbo sa Sugbo was Dr. Melquiadito Allego, the man behind Bathalad. Wenceslao “Ben” Zubiri, the composer of the Cebuano anthem “Matud Nila,” was one of four given the posthumous lifetime achievement awards. Receiving the plaque in his behalf was former senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri whose father is the late composer’s cousin. A special commendation was given to Alma Bella Guiao, an OFW from Argao, who helped several fellow OFWs in Syria reach safe ground. Guaio is not in the photo above. See here a photo of her visit to Gov. Gwen Garcia last month.
