Arson Eyed In Capitol Site Fire

Two commercial establishments and four homes were destroyed along M. Velez St., Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City today when fire broke out at 5:20 pm. The fire was placed under control in 25 minutes but was able to eat up Josephine’s All Dental Services and a branch of Arbee’s Bakeshop as well as four nearby houses. It also damaged a large part of the Golden Banawa Hardware and two other homes, one of which housed a sari-sari store. Damage was initially estimated at P800,000 but fire investigators continue to look into the cause and other details of the incident. They are checking a report that a man carrying a bottle of kerosene may have started the fire in one of the structures behind Arbee’s Bakeshop. The man is now in police custody for questioning.
