Buried At The Wake

A landslide in Barangay Pagsabungan, Mandaue City at around 2 pm today buried the coffin of a woman whose remains were still lying in state in the small chapel (kapilya) of Sitio San Roque. Witnesses say that after days of heavy rain in addition to the downpour this afternoon, the side of a small hill gave way and buried the kapilya. From under the rubble, they heard a cry for help from Jeremy Cordero, the grandson of Corazon Cordero, the woman whose wake was being held in the chapel. However, neighbors couldn’t immediately help Jeremy who was keeping watch in the wake because of a live wire that lay near the rubble. Only after the wire was disconnected could they rescue the boy who was taken to the hospital to have his scratches treated. The photo above shows that the coffin, damaged by the incident, has been transferred to a tent across the chapel.
